Pennard Cricket Club
2006 was another reasonably successful season for the Club, winning 7 of the 12 games played but losing 4, with 1 abandoned after the first innings because of a cloudburst. Unfortunately another 4 fixtures were cancelled with our Opposition unable to field teams on 3 occasions and ourselves on the fourth. After a very wet blank May, the team won 5 games in succession in June/ early July, but then lost 4 of the last 6 games.
The highlight again last year was the weekend tour to Oxfordshire. Whilst the proposed Saturday game at Offenham in Worcestershire did not materialise, staying in Banbury was very enjoyable and was followed by another excellent win against Sibford on the Sunday in roasting hot weather.
A repeat Tour has been arranged again this year, through the good offices of Ian Davies, a former captain of Pennard, who is now Director of Leisure and Recreation with Cherwell District Council.
The Club only plays “friendlies” and we will be having the usual round of local derby games against the Brynmill Badgers, Bishopston’s Craig y Nos Harpists, Gowerton Veterans, Hendrefoilan Hedgehogs, Sketty Church and Swansea Uplands RFC.
