Gower Bird Hospital is a nationally recognised wildlife
rehabilitation centre and has treated over 16,500 wildlife casualties since 1996. The Hospital cares for injured, sick and orphaned wild birds and hedgehogs with the sole intention of returning them to the wild. Our patrons are Paul Llewellyn and Iolo Williams.

Gower Bird Hospital treats and rehabilitates all species of wild birds and also specialises in the care of hedgehogs and other small mammals. Gower Bird Hospital is one of the few centres in the country to carry out essential pre- and post-release studies. Our rehabilitation aviaries are specially designed and fitted with CCTV cameras so we can observe behaviour without disturbing the birds. You may have seen Hospital staff radio tracking released patients around the Pennard area. These studies improve standards of care for inpatients and follow their progress after release, ensuring our rehabilitation methods are successful and giving our patients the best chance of survival in the wild.

If you find an injured or sick bird you can save its life by putting it into a cardboard box. All wildlife has an instinctive fear of people. The first treatment is always a warm, dark, quiet environment – a closed box with torn up newspapers – to minimise shock, then phone Gower Bird Hospital for advice.

Although primarily founded to help wild birds, hedgehogs now account for almost a quarter of our patients. Hedgehogs are nocturnal, a hedgehog out in the day is in trouble and will need help. Using gloves, put it into a box as above and contact us.

Every year we produce a magazine full of information about the work of Gower Bird gbh-logoHospital, you can also visit our website www.gowerbirdhospital.org.uk
